Using Inflatables Safely in Hot Weather

As temperatures rise and the sunshine arrives, there's no better time to enjoy inflatable fun. Whether it's a bouncy castle, obstacle course, slide, or interactive inflatable, warm weather makes outdoor events even more enjoyable.

However, hot weather can also bring additional safety considerations. At Airplay, safety is always our top priority, so we've put together some practical advice to help everyone stay safe while having fun.

1. Stay Hydrated

Children can become so absorbed in playing that they forget to drink water. Make sure fresh drinking water is readily available and encourage regular water breaks, especially during the hottest parts of the day.

2. Take Regular Breaks

Continuous activity in warm temperatures can lead to fatigue and overheating. Encourage users to take short breaks in shaded areas throughout the day.

3. Check Surface Temperatures

Inflatable surfaces can become warm when exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods. Before use, check that entrance steps, slides, and other areas in direct sunlight are comfortable to touch.

4. Keep Inflatables Dry

While it may be tempting to cool down with water, inflatables should not be sprayed with water or used as water play equipment unless specifically designed for that purpose. Water can make surfaces slippery, increasing the risk of slips and falls. Wet surfaces can also retain heat, making parts of the inflatable uncomfortable to use.

Children should be completely dry before entering the inflatable to help maintain safe playing conditions for everyone.

5. Dress for the Weather

Lightweight, breathable clothing is ideal for inflatable play during hot weather. Avoid shoes, jewellery, belts, and sharp objects that could damage the inflatable or cause injury.

6. Use Sun Protection

Apply sunscreen before play begins and reapply throughout the day as required. Hats and shaded rest areas can also help reduce sun exposure between play sessions.

7. Supervise at All Times

Active adult supervision remains essential regardless of the weather. Ensure users follow the inflatable's rules and avoid overcrowding.

8. Watch for Signs of Heat Exhaustion

Be aware of symptoms such as dizziness, headaches, excessive sweating, nausea, or unusual tiredness. If anyone feels unwell, stop activity immediately, move them to a cool area, and provide water.

9. Follow Operator Instructions

Professional inflatable operators are trained to monitor weather conditions and ensure equipment is used safely. Always follow any guidance provided on-site.

Enjoy the Sunshine Safely

Inflatables and sunny weather are a perfect combination when enjoyed responsibly. By staying hydrated, taking breaks, keeping inflatables dry, and following basic safety precautions, everyone can have a safe and memorable day of fun.

From all of us at Airplay, we hope you enjoy the warm weather and make the most of your inflatable experience this summer.
